Antique English salad/fruit bowl complete with handles. This beautiful bowl is quite unusual and unique. It probably dates to the early 1900s. Each handle is the head of a lion holding a substantial ring in its mouth. The salad bowl stands on a silver pedestal foot. There is a silver banner stretched across the front and back of the bowl. The banner is etched in a Chinoiserie style with bamboo and a bird. There is a round medallion in design on each banner. The medallion was probably the intended spot for engraving - although these are not engraved. There is no liner to the bowl. The bowl is made of oak and has a good old patina. The silver is probably silver plate. We can not identify the silver marks - they are in the photos. This salad bowl measures 6 3/4" tall, 10 1/4" wide (across top of bowl), 12 1/2" wide including lion's head handles, and 5 5/8" across base. This is a rare and lovely salad bowl.
